Handmade Holidays: For Him

They say the way to a man's heart is through his stomach...and here's a simple homemade holiday trio to suit any man in your life.
1) Custom Wine Bottle - Have a favorite photo, funny quip, or holiday greeting? Pick up a bottle of wine, then design and print your own label (approximately 2 3/4" wide by 5 3/4 " tall). Remove the store bought label by soaking the bottle in warm water, scraping off the label off with a razor blade, and cleaning up with Goo Gone. Print your design on a weighty card stock, then stick it to your bottle with double-sided tape or glue. Or, you can find a template for the charming label pictured above at Anders Ruff Custom Designs.
2) Rustic Coasters - With a tree branch and mitre saw, you can create these outdoorsy coasters. See my complete tutorial here. Wrap a set in baker's twine for a holiday effect.
3) Sweet and Savory Mixed Nuts - It's nice to have something to munch with your Merlot. I snacked on this recipe at a holiday party last weekend and wanted to pay it forward. Start with 5 cups of mixed nuts (walnuts, cashew, almonds, pecans) and arrange them on a cookie sheet. Let them toast in the oven for 10 minutes on 350 degrees. Transfer to a large bowl. Stir in 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 1/4 cup coarsely chopped rosemary, 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, and combine well. You may wish to heat them up again, as they really do taste best when served warm. Wrap them in twisted cellophane to show off this tasty treat.
